What is granite?

How granite is formed

The rate at which magma cools has a direct effect on the size of the crystals within granite.
In certain cases, the crystals in granite may be up to 5 centimeters in diameter. Granite is usually formed at the junction of continents and oceanic plates; interestingly, granites cool near the surface of the earth and are therefore affected by sedimentary erosion.
Granite is the hardest natural stone after diamond and is made of quartz. This stone has high thermal resistance and, with very low porosity, low water absorption. Granite has a high density and is resistant to acid.
What materials is granite made of?
The main part of granite is quartz and feldspar. It is interesting to know that we only call a stone granite when it contains at least 20% quartz and no more than 20% dark minerals. Feldspar is a type of crystalline mineral that is composed of aluminum silicate, sodium, potassium, and calcium and is found abundantly in igneous rocks. Of course, mica, amphibole, and other minerals are also found in the composition of granite.
Due to the presence of mica in granite, it shines when you put this stone under the light.
If you hold granite in the sun, the stone will sparkle due to the presence of mica. In fact, all the fine sparkling holes that you see on the surface of granite are mica.
